3 out of 5 stars
In Verity we follow a struggling, somewhat introverted author who is contracted to finish a best selling book series for an author who has been grievously injured. She ends up moving into the home of the injured author, her husband and son, in order to complete her research and find any work the author has already done on the final three books of the series. What she discovers is chilling, bizarre and perhaps dangerous as well.
Overall this was a good, quick read. The premise was interesting and there were some creepy, disturbing moments. As a reader of primarily horror fiction, this was quite tame and could have been so much more creepy and disturbing.
While I appreciate that Colleen Hoover is a romance writer, I felt that way too much time was spent describing the sexual exploits of the injured author and her husband. Most of the included sex scenes really did nothing to move the plot along and seemed rather gratuitous.
The ending saved the book from a 1 or 2 star rating. It provided a good twist and left me wondering if my previous judgments of the characters and their motivations was nearly as accurate as I had believed.
I , at this point, will not likely be seeking out further books by this author ...but then again one never does know.
On to the next!
