The old saying " be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" was certainly the message of this one.
A fun approach to an urban fantasy that didn't take itself too seriously. There were some laugh out loud moments here, often delivered as quotes from the main characters grandmother. I was also pleased that the main character, Joey, was a forty something, somewhat overweight woman trying to get her life back on track. It was refreshing to have a genuine connection with a character.
The level of romance/ sexual situations was very toned down from what I have experienced in other urban fantasy books and was very realistic in its presentation. Again, well suited to the middle aged status of the main character ( and I say that with nothing but respect for my fellow middle aged women :) ) It did feel like this might change as the series goes forward as hinted in the "cliff hanger" ending.
The story itself was good if a little predictable in its execution but well worth the read if you are looking for a quick fantasy escape.

On to the next!
